What to do if your pet is missing:

Check at Both Shelters

Check with Your Neighbors

Check with Your Neighbors

Contact the Roswell Humane Society at 575-622-8950 and Roswell Animal Services at 575-624-6722.  Please be sure to visit both shelters in person, as your pet’s description may differ from ours.  It’s better to be safe than sorry.  Also, ask Roswell Animal Services if any injured animals fitting that description have been found or brought in. We suggest checking in person as often as possible.

Contact local veterinary offices to determine if your pet was brought in injured or if someone is canvassing area veterinarians in an attempt to locate the owner.

Check with local groomers, especially if your pet has been freshly groomed.

Put up Flyers

Put up Flyers

Place flyers, ideally featuring a photograph, throughout your neighborhood in all directions for several blocks.  Also, ask permission to post them at local businesses. If someone is sheltering your pet, they will eventually HAVE to visit a store.

REUNIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS

It's estimated that one in three pets will become lost at some point in their lifetimes. Tragically, many will never be reunited with their families as they have no identification to speak for them. Before the unexpected happens, the Roswell Humane Society recommends that all dogs and cats have two points of protection:

  • A collar with an ID Tag with your current phone number as well as any license tags as required in your community.

  • A microchip ID provides a safe, effective, and permanent form of identification should your pet's collar and tag fall off or get removed.  Microchips are required by law in Roswell, New Mexico.

Be sure to update your pet’s tag and microchip if your address or contact information changes. Please speak with your veterinarian about microchip IDs for your pets.
